People behind TeensCode: Ishita J.

She loves books, skincare, the internet, and coding.

The story behind TeensCode:

One day, Ishita had the idea to start teaching people how to code, for free. Why? For a few reasons.

She had read an article in Seattle Times about how there are so many tech jobs in the Seattle area, and not enough people to fill them. And it talked about how high school programs were the key to increasing interest in Computer Science. This had her thinking about how lucky she was to have learned to program because of a family friend. She knew that not many people were even exposed to programming.  But this wasn't the direct catalyst to the decision of TeensCode. She was doing college research and found that the #1 in-demand job in the next few years would consistently turn out to be related to computer science. And again she was infused with that feeling of gratefulness but unworthiness. She had learned to code because of a family friend. What was she doing to complete the cycle of Karma?

So she quickly fired off a text to "Rose". Rose was one of her best friends who had done coding with Ishita the last summer. Ishita wanted to know if Rose would be interested. Rose said she would be.

They met and decided to start TeensCode. They wanted to increase awareness of coding, for free. They are starting to teach scratch, a user-friendly platform designed to teach people how to code at a very basic level.

If you are interested, join them for their next workshop!
